DOUG JOHNSON PRESIDENT/CREATIVE DIRECTOR/WRITER

Flying Penguin soars above the crowd by offering its clients 3 things:Experience. Expertise. Excellence. For Doug these three words are more than a slogan. More than a philosophy. It's something he lives, breathes and insists upon.

EXPERIENCE

Doug has been selling, marketing or advertising since the age of 18. He earned his marketing degree from McGill University. He paid for it by selling everything from encyclopaedias to dental supplies and frozen french fries. Doug then worked in marketing for Catelli and Bausch & Lomb. At Bausch & Lomb, he began creating his own marketing communications because he couldn't find anyone who was better at advertising his technical product than he was.

EXPERTISE

After realising he loved and excelled at the creative side of the business, Doug left Bausch & Lomb. He quickly became a “hired gun”, writing for several large ad agencies on their high tech accounts. The list of accounts he has worked on includes: Microsoft, IBM, Novell, Digital, Compaq, Silicon Graphics and Oracle. He also wrote powerful copy directly for high tech clients. These extremely satisfied clients asked Doug to form his own agency. He resisted requests to expand until he had freelanced for enough agencies to learn how to manage an entire creative team. Then he ran a “virtual” agency for a year and a half. After making enough “virtual” mistakes to learn exactly what it takes to consistently produce excellent work, he formed a team of committed professionals and started Flying Penguin.

EXCELLENCE

Some people say it is impossible to do excellent work for every single client. These same people say penguins can't fly. Flying Penguin's goal is to do excellent work 100% of the time. Quite simply, “good” isn't good enough for Doug or his team.

GEORGE SHEWCHUCK SENIOR ART DIRECTOR

George possesses the 3 qualities we believe are necessary to create powerful high-tech marketing communications: experience, expertise and a commitment to excellence.

EXPERIENCE

George learned his craft at the Ontario College of Art. He honed his skills as he climbed through some of Canada's largest ad agencies, including: McCann Erickson, Ogilvy & Mather, Chiat Day and Vickers & Benson. He perfected his craft working on some of the most challenging accounts in the country, including: IBM, Molson, General Motors, Quaker Oats, Reckitt & Colman, Lever Brothers, Hyundia and Nestle. George has 15 years experience in TV, print and cyberspace.

Image. Image. Image. George can communicate the precise image you want, to any customer. George creates images that motivate human beings to buy.

EXCELLENCE

George and Doug Johnson have an extremely strong working relationship. They push, challenge and inspire each other. Neither is satisfied with good. They both insist upon excellence.

ROLANDO LAMPITOC ART DIRECTOR/MULTIMEDIA WIZARD

Rolando possesses the 3 qualities we believe are necessary to create powerful high tech marketing communications: experience, expertise and a commitment to excellence.

EXPERIENCE

After graduating from Humber College, Rolando began his career with a typography firm, where he mastered all elements of print production. Since “spreading his wings” to tackle tougher design challenges, he’s worked for design firms and large agencies like Saatchi & Saatchi. He’s worked on large accounts like CIBC and Fidelity Investments. He has 20 years experience, including almost a decade of experience in new media.

EXPERTISE

Rolando's mastery of new media is built upon a strong foundation of traditional print production, a discipline which required both logically following the rules as well as creative expression. His new media work also combines logic and creativity. His tightly coded projects are creative, powerful and effective.

EXCELLENCE

Rolando always strives to produce the best possible work and achieve the best possible results for the client.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience. If there ever was an outside the box thinker and artist it would be Hendrix. The rest are just followers.

KATHRYN ASHBY ART DIRECTOR

Kathryn possesses the 3 qualities we believe are necessary to create powerful high-tech marketing communications: experience, expertise and a commitment to excellence.

EXPERIENCE

Kathryn liked learning about design so much she graduated from three different graphic programs: Humber, George Brown and the International Academy of Design. She has three years experience in the publishing industry and seven more in advertising. She's worked for some of Toronto's largest, and hottest, agencies. Kathryn has experience with extremely large print projects and has worked on the following accounts: Hydro One, CIBC Visa, VanCity, Assante, Dundee, CIBC, Merill Lynch, Hewlett Packard and EDS.

EXPERTISE

Kathryn is our Mac expert. She has strong prepress and production skills. Her skills on Quark Xpress, Photoshop and Illustrator, combined with her creativity and vision, ensure that Flying Penguin is always able to create the image our clients need to increase their sales.

EXCELLENCE

Kathryn's strength is her attention to detail. Whether designing a brochure, or creating a special effect in Photoshop, Kathryn always makes sure the job is done right the first time.
